The best part of the entire game was the car customizer. You'd be minus your car, but kept whatever money you had an any experence accumulated up to the last time you updated your clone. Once you got enough money, you could get yourself cloned at Gold Cross, so if you got killed, you'd be resurrected at the nearest Gold Cross facility (there were like 10 "cities" you could travel between, not all had a Gold Cross). In addition to a full story campaign and lots of randomized side missions you could do for money, you could also enter the arena and battle against other cars or even go to Atlantic City for some blackjack. For a game that came on a double sided floppy, it offered huge play value. It was also programmed by Lord British, aka Richard Garriot. Now that Origin Systems Ultima games have been released, and you've stunned me by releasing such old, old classics as Starflight 1 & 2, any chance of us getting another old Origin title from roughly the same time period (as Ulitma IV) called Autoduel?įor those who don't know, Autoduel was an open world top-down vehicle combat game based on the board game Car Wars by Steve Jackson Games.
